How To Make Your Own Toothpaste

Toothpaste-Cinnamon-NutmegMaking your own natural toothpaste makes both environmental and economic sense. When walking down the toothpaste aisle in your local grocery store, you will likely see tons of brands that rely on artifical sweeteners and questionable chemicals.

Even the “natural” brands may have some components to them that aren’t the best choice for your home. However, at Nourishing Joy they have published a wonderful recipes on how to make your own toothpaste that is both effective at cleaning your teeth and completely non-toxic.

Miniature Metal Watering Can Party Favors

miniaturewatercanA close friend of mine is getting married this Spring, and she recently asked me for some help in coming up with some cute wedding favors suitable for a Spring wedding.

As a gardener, I wanted something that would reflect love blossoming and spring time, and I came across the idea of using miniature metal watering cans and “love blooms” seed packs for party favors. She loved the idea, and we are now collecting supplies.

You can find out more about how to make these adorable wedding favors, plus many recommendations for where to find the cute watering cans and seed packs here:

Luxurious Sugar Scrub Recipe

sugar-scrubAlthough sugar may not be good to eat – it can be good for your skin!

Sugar based scrubs are easy to make and are a wonderful way to exfoliate your skin, and they can be used on most any part of your body (not just your face). I personally love using them on my feet – but you can try them on nearly any body part for luxurious, smooth skin.

Sugar scrubs are also super easy to make, and can usually be put together in under ten minutes.

I recently found a very nice collection of sugar scrub recipes from wellnessmama.com. I especially liked her suggestion for making a nice lemon hand scrub for use after washing dishes. Most of these rely on just a few simple ingredients, like brown sugar, coconut oil and various essential oils.

Make Your Own Lavender Mint Lip Balm

lavendermintlipbalmHomemade lip balms are great to have at hand, and they make wonderful gifts as well.

One of my favorites lip balm recipes uses lavender and mint essential oils. Peppermint and mint are a wonderful combination. Both are good natural stress relievers, and it smells and tastes wonderful as well!

I recently found an exceptionally simple recipe online at gorgeouslygreen.com. You only need four ingredients to make the lip balm: peppermint essential oil, lavender essential oil, shea butter and cocoa butter. And you should also have some lovely lip balm tins and well to put the lip balm into once you are finished.

How To Make Your Own Yogurt

yogurt-and-fruit-lgRight now I’m in the process of writing a book on facial mask recipes, and I realized as I was collecting different recipes together that many of them use yogurt as their base.

Yogurt is great to eat – and great on your face – but why settle for store brought brands with artificial ingredients when you can make your own yogurt yourself at home?

I recently found this great article over at the NourishingJoy website that outlines the whole process. To read it, click here:

And it’s also fun and many of my homemade products make great gifts as well!

I recently decided to publish some of my favorite recipes as books at Amazon.com, and I also started this website as well where I can provide even more great recipes and tips for those who share my passion for herbal recipes, gardening and more!
